Need Tuition But Cannot Afford It? Look for Mendaki.

Mendaki is a Singapore self-help group that offers tuition to the Malay-Muslim community. The tuition rates are affordable for even families with financial difficulties. In 2010, with the help from Mendaki’s Tuition Scheme, the community has achieved a healthy trend of more Malay students scoring better results in standard Mathematics for PSLE.

This year, the Mendaki Tuition Scheme has also received very positive response as many more students are interested in the scheme. Mendaki is also celebrating its 30th year in 2012 and we wish them all the best in helping the Malay community. Those who wish to know more about the tuition packages from Mendaki can visit their website at http://mts.mendaki.org.sg/tuition.html .

Sky-High Tuition Rates For Super Tutors.

Super Tutors

Super Tutors

Good tutors charge premium tuition rates. “Super-tutors” charge up to S$2000 ( £1,000) per hour for home tuition. Elite tutors in Britain have been earning a very decent income by tutoring. Many of them have graduated from elite schools such as Oxford.

The affluent and rich who can afford such services usually just want their children to get into the same elite schools where the tutors graduated from. But does it matter if your tutor comes from such schools? Are the sky-high fess justified?

Perhaps we should let the market forces decide if these tutors are worth the bucks. If you are rich enough, you can try to hire tutors who charge more. You should then get feedback from your child to see if you are putting your money in the right pocket. If you are a middle-class, there are still plenty of great and passionate tutors who teaches at affordable rates. No matter who you hire, their actual performance matters more than their resume!

At Ideal Tuition, some of our tutors are offering free trial for students to try them out. You can search specifically for tutors who give trials at the Tutor Advance Search.

Top 10 Tuition Agencies in Singapore

You might be wondering WHY we are churning out the Top 10 list of our competitors???

We believe in allowing our customers to choose the most suitable tuition agency to assist them in looking for the right home tutor.  To be fair, we will not be rating ourselves and will be EXCLUDED from the Top 10 list even if we might be inside. We will be ranking the agencies based on 3 factors:

1) Website Design

A scale of 1 to 10. With 10 being “Easily find your directions around” and 1 being “Very messy”.

How we judge: By the position and size of the main buttons/links to request for tutor or register as a tutor.

2) Tutor Search Engine

A scale of 1 to 10. With 10 being “Can filter tutor profiles based on many criteria” and 1 being “Cannot filter much / No search engine at all”.

How we judge: By the number of form fields which the search engine has.

3) FAQ

A scale of 1 to 10. With 10 being “Have all the answers a typical visitor will need” and 1 being :Only a few answers/ No answers”.

How we judge: By the number of questions and answers the FAQ has.

We tried to be as fair as possible. If you feel that it is not a good ranking table, let us know. Take a look and tell us where we stand too.

Learn By Yourself … Faster!

Having difficulties studying for exams?

Having a home tutor may help but he/she cannot be there 24 hours 7 days a week for you. Many students find themselves cramped with tons of information to memorise and to understand before their exams. Some of them draw mind maps to grasp concepts easily and make connections between data more visible. Others drink plenty of chicken essence and pray that their memory can improve overnight.

Smart students often make use of technologies to make their life more comfortable. Online website such as Quizlet provides customised flashcards and games to make learning more fun and much easier. You can create flash cards to memorise certain terms and their meaning for your spelling test or create games to learn about difficult concepts. Studying may not be easy but playing games to study should be much easier.

An iPad App To Teach Math Using Singapore’s Method

Do you still remember how we solve math problems in primary school?

Using the bar model template to draw bar models to solve math problems is a common experience for most Singaporeans. Now, this method of learning maths has been adopted by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Specialized Curriculum Group in the United States. They have produced an iPad App that allows students to draw and manipulate the bar models.

Check out the video here: Math in Focus.

Learning Japanese or German as your third language in school? Why not learn Coding instead?

It is not uncommon for students in Singapore to learn a third language in school if they are able to master both their mother tongue and English. But with technology rapidly infiltrating every corner of our world, learning to code in C, C# or Java may soon become a possible “third language” to learn.

Programming can unveil a whole new world of possibilities as students will be able to create applications to solve almost any problems around them. There are numerous free resources online to learn programming. You can try CodeAcademy to start your first lesson in coding right now.

If you are interested in creating games or more complicated application, knowledge of subjects such as physics may be important. Thus, while learning coding, do not neglect the usual school subjects as they may come in handy too.

Enjoy Coding!
