New Tutor Ranking System
With an increasing number of tutors in our database, it it getting more difficult to filter tutor profiles just by their teaching subjects, teaching areas etc.
We have therefore introduced a brand new ranking system for all tutors!
On a scale of 5 stars, tutors will be rated relative to each other. This is how it works.
For every assignment which a tutor has been assigned, the tutor will be given a rating by the student/parent. All the accumulated rating will be calculated into a single score. The number of stars which a tutor will be given will be based on their relative score compared to other tutors. Only the top scorers will be given 5 stars.
Tutors who have yet to receive any assignment from us will not be given any star.

Remember our article on spelling bee when we showcase funny videos of the event.
The Winner for Singapore’ s very own Spelling Bee is finally out on 28 April. Jordan Foo from ACS (Primary) has emerged as the champion! Congratulation Jordan!
Beating 28 other finalists and spell his way to the top at the Raffles City Convention Centre is no easy task.
So do you know how to spell apocalyptic and gesundheit? If you don’t, you have just lost to Jordan who is 12 years old. Don’t worry, we cannot spell them too.

English language exams are going to focus more on the functional use of the language from 2013 onwards.
Some of the new exam components are reading out a speech or news report, editing grammatical errors and taking notes while listening to a passage. A 250-word text will be edited by the students to test their writing skills. As for listening, it will be a 45-minute segment weighing up to 10% of the total grade.
These changes are meant to better prepare the students for their future career but parents must also play their part to encourage the proper usage of the language in order to help the students to adapt to the new assessment format.

A Boston-based startup Boundless Learning is trying to disrupt the textbook market. Seriously, they have a good chance of doing that.
The content of thousands of textbooks are being recreated from free sources of information such as Wikipedia etc. These textbooks contain the same information as those commercially available ones but in different wordings. This might just be the solution for poor students who need to buy expensive textbooks just for a few chapters of content that their professors requested. The current tuition fees of universities are already very high, thus Boundless Learning’s offering comes at the right time to reduce students’ financial burden.
Trying to save some money? Perhaps you can try it out. Do let us know if it is really a good alternative to traditional textbooks.
